Share of the total new-car market for each year; only the largest groups are shown, so the figures do not add up to 100%.
There is no clean free source for worldwide manufacturer market share (OICA stopped its by-manufacturer production table after 2017). For the "who builds the most cars worldwide" question, see our vehicle-sales ranking (Toyota leads, ahead of the Volkswagen Group and Hyundai-Kia).
The Volkswagen Group is actually extending its European lead, while Stellantis is losing ground fastest. The real movement is at the bottom: BYD tripled its share in a single year, SAIC/MG keeps growing, and Tesla is falling back visibly. The Chinese offensive has arrived in Europe.
New passenger-car registrations per group for full-year 2025, source ACEA (European Automobile Manufacturers' Association), EU plus EFTA plus UK. Share = group registrations divided by the total market (13.27 million). The change compares the 2025 share with 2024 in percentage points (2024 baseline from the ACEA annual release, consistent with the 2025 row). Mercedes-Benz here is the brand excluding Smart (ACEA definition). The largest groups are shown; smaller makers are omitted.
