Global

There is no clean free source for worldwide manufacturer market share (OICA stopped its by-manufacturer production table after 2017). For the "who builds the most cars worldwide" question, see our vehicle-sales ranking (Toyota leads, ahead of the Volkswagen Group and Hyundai-Kia).

My take
The US market stays firmly in the hands of the Big Three plus the Asian makers Toyota and Hyundai-Kia, which keep gaining, while Stellantis continues its slide. The Chinese offensive is locked out here by tariffs, and that makes the USA the exception among the large markets. Anyone who wants to see what a walled-off car market looks like should look here.

Methodology

Light-vehicle sales per group for full-year 2025, compiled from the manufacturers' official US sales reports (Q4/FY2025); total market (about 16.3 million) per Cox Automotive. The basis is deliveries, not official registrations (the US has no KBA/ACEA). Twelve of the 13 groups are backed by official manufacturer reports; the group figure is the sum of the brands. Tesla does not report US sales, so that row is an estimate (Experian/Cox) and marked accordingly. The change compares the 2025 share with 2024.
