Global context (not our own ranking, cited for orientation): according to Autovista24 (based on EV Volumes data), the Tesla Model Y was the world's best-selling BEV in full-year 2025 with 1.086 million units, followed by the Tesla Model 3 (500,000) and the Geely Galaxy Xingyuan (474,000).

My take
China remains the largest and fastest-moving EV market in the world. Whoever leads here sets the global cost curve for the years ahead.

Methodology

Full-year 2025 retail sales per model, compiled by CarNewsChina (an English-language China automotive trade publication) from Yiche and China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) data. BEV and PHEV both count as EVs. CPCA itself only publishes market aggregates (NEV share, total sales), no public model-by-model ranking. Models without a documented BEV/PHEV split (e.g. BYD Qin PLUS) carry an "NEV" tag instead of a definitive BEV/PHEV tag, with details noted on the model row. No US market and no all-powertrain ranking (see Global context below).
